Common fault handling and maintenance of outboard engines

After the outboard has finished running, the electric lock should be turned off, the fuel line removed, the engine impeller moved out of the water and the locating pin locked, or the engine removed to the packing box. The fuel tank needs to be tightened with the breather valve and placed in a safe location.

Section II. Maintenance of the assault boat

I. Routine maintenance of the power propulsion unit (outboard engine)

In order to ensure the needs of emergency rescue, the outboard engine needs to be maintained regularly, and its daily maintenance is as follows

1

(i) Break-in period of the power propulsion unit

The break-in period of the power propulsion unit is generally 10 hours. During the break-in period, if it is a two-stroke outboard, special attention should be paid to the ratio of the two-stroke oil.

The break-in period for four-stroke outboards is the same as the break-in period for cars and motorbikes, so try not to use full throttle for a long time during the break-in period. In the first 3-4 minutes of starting a new outboard engine, it should run at idle speed, so that the outboard engine can get a good warm-up and lubrication, especially for two-stroke machines because they are lubricated by two-stroke oil mixed with petrol, so they must be warmed up and started slowly for 3-5 minutes before they can run at medium speed or above. otherwise the impeller of the pump will be easily worn and the machine will overheat.

2

(ii) Daily maintenance of the propeller

The daily maintenance of the propeller engine is very important, especially for engines used in corrosive water, it is best to start the engine in fresh water for a while after each use to flush out the dirty water to avoid corrosion of the machine, which is also necessary before long-term storage; in addition, the mixed fuel is easy to deteriorate, it is recommended that the mixed fuel should not be stored for more than one month, especially the plastic container is more prone to deterioration. Degraded fuel will lose its lubricating effect and can cause serious damage to the machine. Before leaving the machine for a long time, drain the fuel from the tank and start the motor to exhaust the fuel in the carburettor, this will prevent the fuel remaining in the carburettor from deteriorating and causing difficulties in starting the machine next time, then remove the spark plug and add 3-5 drops of oil to the cylinder, start it a few times before installing the spark plug to keep the cylinder lubricated and prevent rusting, then install the spark plug.

Summary:

After the outboard has finished running, the electric lock should be turned off, the fuel line removed, the engine impeller moved out of the water and the locating pin locked, or the engine removed to the packing box. The fuel tank needs to be tightened with the breather valve and placed in a safe location.
